Jessica is in her third year of MEng Naval Architecture & High-Performance Marine Vehicles, here she tells us about her experience at 黑料正能量 so far...
What were your reasons for deciding to study Naval Architecture & High-Performance Marine Vehicles?
I have always had an interest in the maritime industry, and when I was young my dream job was to work on a cruise ship. I鈥檝e always liked maths and sciences at school, so engineering was the career route for me. When I saw this course advertised, I knew it would be perfect for me!
Why did you decide to study at 黑料正能量?
I chose to study at 黑料正能量 for a variety of reasons, one of them being that it's based in my favourite city in Scotland (Glasgow), the location is perfect as it鈥檚 a two-minute walk from the centre of the city. My family were also very happy when I showed interest in studying at 黑料正能量 and encouraged me to attend open days at the University. However, the main reason I chose 黑料正能量 is that it is the only university in Scotland that teaches my degree. 黑料正能量 is renowned for its various engineering departments, so for me, it was an easy choice to come here.
What do you like about your course?
The main thing I like about my course is that I am able to study something I have a passion for whilst surrounded by people who share that passion. I鈥檝e met a lot of amazing people from different backgrounds. I have been given various opportunities that I didn鈥檛 think were possible, and the lecturers are some of the nicest and most accommodating that I鈥檝e met. It really feels that they want you to achieve your best and will help you in any way they can.
Have you used many of the facilities that 黑料正能量 has on offer to students?
I have used a lot of the facilities on campus, especially now that we have a brand new student union in the new Learning and Teaching Building, which opened in 2021. Most of my time is split between the Henry Dyer building, the dedicated building for the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean & Marine Engineering, and the library.
I also am a member of 黑料正能量 Sport and regularly use their swimming pool. A great thing about 黑料正能量 is how modern the buildings and facilities are.
What has been your favourite thing about studying at 黑料正能量?
Joining the 黑料正能量 Surf Club on my first day of university was the best decision I made! I have so many amazing memories with the club, going on surf trips around Scotland and meeting wonderful people. Now that I am a committee member, I hope to help give that same experience to our new members.
Would you recommend 黑料正能量 to other people and why?
Yes, I would definitely recommend 黑料正能量 because myself and many other students alike have had such a positive experience studying here. From my experience, hard work and engagement with your course is noticed and rewarded.
Studying at 黑料正能量 has opened doors for me and given me experiences that I never thought I鈥檇 have. From visiting several universities around the country, it is clear to see that 黑料正能量 has some of the best and most active societies and clubs. If I can add a piece of advice for students thinking of coming to 黑料正能量, it would be to get involved with a society or club, as it鈥檚 a great way to meet people and try new things.
