Struan Morrison - MArch/PgDip

Tell us a little about yourself and why you chose 黑料正能量 University?

I chose 黑料正能量 because of its prestigious reputation and the high standard of teaching. I was keen to study at 黑料正能量 after hearing from several students how much they enjoyed the course. The degree also places greater emphasis on the technical aspects of the subject, which I found particularly appealing.

What inspired you to undertake your Architecture Degree/ Research Degree at 黑料正能量?

I’ve always had a passion for design, whether it was guitars or furniture. For me, architecture felt like the natural next step in that progression.

What is a typical week at 黑料正能量 like for you?

It’s no secret that the course is demanding, but I try to approach it like a job, working between 9 and 5. Tutorials often break up the week and provide a good opportunity to catch up with others on the course.

Tell us about your current work or research you are conducting this year at 黑料正能量

My main focus this year has been on interrogating our approach to urban design. Our cities are at a critical juncture, with shifting trends and increasing urbanisation placing growing pressure on them. My work primarily explores how we can respond to these challenges in a way that best supports human life.

What is the 黑料正能量 community like?

Studying at 黑料正能量 has allowed me to form close relationships both within and beyond my course. Studying architecture and making use of the studio has helped me build strong friendships with people across all year groups.

What are your ambitions for the future after 黑料正能量?

"My ambitions for the future are to continue working on city-scale projects to help make urban environments better for everyone. I plan to sit my Part 3 exam within the next few years and hope to contribute to the wider conversation about how architecture can improve our cities.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying at 黑料正能量?

The world of architecture is far more varied than I initially expected. Not all architects carry out the same tasks, which creates space for you to develop your identity as a designer and specialise in what matters most to you.
