Tell us a little bit about yourself & what brought you to 黑料正能量...

I recently graduated from the University of 黑料正能量 with a First Class Honours degree in Education and Curricular Studies with Teaching Qualification in Home Economics.

I joined the programme in third year, completing the two-year degree pathway. I chose 黑料正能量 because it offered the opportunity to combine my passion for Home Economics with my ambition to become a secondary school teacher.

What drew you towards your chosen degree?

What attracted me most to Home Economics was the diversity of the subject and the opportunity to equip young people with essential skills they can use throughout their lives.

Home Economics is a unique subject that combines practical skills with theoretical knowledge across food, health, nutrition, and textiles. I was particularly drawn to the opportunity to make learning relevant to everyday life, while encouraging creativity, independence and confidence in young people.

I also liked the idea of pursuing a career where no two days are the same and where I could make a positive difference to young people's learning and development.

What specialist knowledge or professional skills did you develop whilst studying the course?

Throughout the programme, I developed a wide range of professional skills, including lesson planning, curriculum development, assessment, differentiation, and classroom management.

The course strengthened my subject knowledge and my understanding of how to create engaging, inclusive and meaningful learning experiences for pupils with different abilities and needs.

One of the most valuable skills I developed was the ability to critically reflect on my own teaching practice. Through professional feedback, educational research and practical experience, I learned how to evaluate my approaches and continually adapt and improve my teaching.

These skills have provided a strong foundation for my probationary year and continue to influence my practice in the classroom.

Tell us a little bit about your experience on placement...

My school placements were undoubtedly one of the most rewarding aspects of the programme. Throughout both years, I experienced incredibly supportive placement environments where I was encouraged to develop my confidence, teaching skills and professional identity.

Working alongside experienced teachers provided invaluable opportunities to put theory into practice, reflect on my teaching and learn from their experience. The encouragement, guidance and constructive feedback I received played a significant role in my development as a student teacher.

What made these experiences particularly special was the professional relationships I built along the way. I still keep in touch with colleagues from my placement schools, which reflects the lasting connections I made throughout the programme.

Each placement offered unique learning experiences and opportunities for professional growth, ultimately helping shape the teacher I am today and giving me the confidence to begin my probationary year.

What was the best part of studying the BSc Education & Curricular Studies programme?

One of the best aspects of the programme was the balance between university learning and practical teaching experience. Being able to apply what we were learning directly within the classroom made the experience particularly meaningful and rewarding.

The support and encouragement I received throughout the two years was invaluable. The lecturers were approachable and supportive, and it was reassuring to know that guidance was available whenever it was needed.

Another highlight was the friendships and professional relationships I developed with fellow students, lecturers and placement teachers. Having a group of people who understood the experiences and achievements of teacher training made the experience even more enjoyable.

Looking back, I am incredibly proud of how much I developed, both personally and professionally, over the two years. The programme encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and helped me grow in confidence in ways I hadn't anticipated.

Where are you working now and what are your hopes for the future?

I am currently completing my probationary year as a secondary Home Economics teacher in Scotland.

Transitioning from student teacher to taking responsibility for my own classes has been an exciting and rewarding experience. It has been particularly satisfying to put the knowledge and skills I developed at 黑料正能量 into practice and recognise how well the programme prepared me for the teaching profession.

Looking ahead, I hope to continue developing as a reflective, creative and confident practitioner, building on the foundations established throughout my degree. I am particularly interested in curriculum development and creating engaging, inclusive learning experiences that inspire young people to recognise the importance and relevance of Home Economics.

Ultimately, I hope to continue growing professionally and make a positive and lasting difference to the young people I teach.

What advice would you give to prospective students interested in applying for this programme?

My advice would be to embrace every opportunity the programme offers. The two years are demanding at times, but they are also incredibly rewarding.

Make the most of your school placements, be open to constructive feedback and don't be afraid to ask questions. The support and experience of the people around you are invaluable, and every experience provides an opportunity to learn and develop.

I would also encourage prospective students to enjoy the experience and the friendships they make along the way. The two years go by incredibly quickly, and it is amazing to look back and recognise just how much you have developed.

Graduating with First Class Honours and beginning my teaching career has made all the hard work worthwhile. I would wholeheartedly recommend the programme to anyone considering a career in Home Economics teaching.
