Personal statement

Dr Carolina Marin-Cadavid joined the SYIIB as a Knowledge Exchange Fellow in 2026. She is passionate about advancing research and practice in international business and strategy. Before becoming an academic, Carolina worked as an Export Director in the fashion industry and as a Business Internationalisation Officer at the Chamber of Commerce in Medell铆n, Colombia. She also served as Director of the Colombo Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Medell铆n, supporting firms across sectors in their international expansion and strategic development. More recently, she worked as a consultant to the Scottish Government, contributing to a 2025 report on the gender export gap. Carolina brings over 13 years of academic experience as a Lecturer, Knowledge Exchange Associate, and Researcher. She has held teaching leadership roles, including Head of the International Business Programme at Universidad de Medell铆n. Her research explores how multinational enterprises (MNEs) from emerging and advanced economies adopt organisational practices, build legitimacy, and enhance performance through internationalisation. She also engages with broader debates in comparative corporate governance and sustainability. She is very experienced in working in multidisciplinary research teams and collaborates with colleagues from multiple universities. Carolina has worked as a Research Associate at the HCESI, examining workplace practices enabling digital transformation in global manufacturing. As a Hunter Foundation Fellow, she studied how MNEs engage local stakeholders to drive innovation and circularity. Her doctoral research focused on how stakeholders influence strategy implementation in state-owned subsidiaries. Carolina currently serves as Communications Officer for the British Academy of Management SIG in International Business/International Management. Her work has been published in Public Management Review, International Public Management Journal, and International Small Business Journal.
