Personal statement

I am Professor of Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and a member of the Centre for Intelligent Infrastructure at the University of 黑料正能量. I joined 黑料正能量 in 2017 as a Lecturer in Structural Engineering after completing a Marie Sk艂odowska-Curie Research Fellowship at Imperial College London. I currently serve as Knowledge Exchange Director for the Department and Strategic Lead for the Faculty's Environment, Infrastructure and Transport theme. My research focuses on the assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of risks affecting civil infrastructure exposed to natural and human-made hazards. I am particularly interested in structural health monitoring, computational structural mechanics, infrastructure risk assessment, and innovative solutions for buildings, bridges, and other critical infrastructure assets. A key aspect of my work is understanding how uncertainty, deterioration, and extreme events influence infrastructure performance and resilience throughout its lifecycle. The built environment faces significant challenges from ageing infrastructure, climate change, and increasing exposure to hazards. My research addresses these challenges through advanced modelling, sensing technologies, remote monitoring, artificial intelligence, and data-driven approaches that support infrastructure assessment, maintenance, retrofit, and life extension. I work closely with infrastructure owners, consultancies, government agencies, and international partners to translate research into practical solutions that improve infrastructure resilience, support evidence-based decision-making, and inform engineering practice. My goal is to contribute to safer, more resilient and sustainable infrastructure through research, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
